Symantec End Point Protection version 12.1.5 Dectecting an .msi as infected...

I need a solution

Hi all,

We have some customers that are running Symantec End Point Protection version 12.1.5/virus definition sequence 150128001.  This sequence seems to be detecting Windows Installer .msi files as infected.

We include a repackaged third party appliction via .msi for possible future use with our application.  If needed the application is installed at runtime by executing this .msi file.  Until recently, reporting users have been fine with this .msi just sitting in our file system.  They have been up and running on a particular version of our software for quite some time, but are now seeing security notifications.

Has Symantec added .msi file extensions as possible carriers of threats.

I've tried entering a support ticket, but I keep seeing browser compatibility messages (regardless of IE compatibility setting) then I get a message that our issue is being worked on.  Today, apparently, I was able to enter an issue, but I wasn't able to enter any informational content anywhere, just contact information.  I received an email that the case was entered, but I am unable to 'Manage' my case(s).

I guess you could say I have two issues, but the one I'm more concerned about is what our end users have been experiencing since a recent definition update.  One of the users contacted Symantec, I guess, and was told it may just be a 'false positive', whatever that means.

Any help/guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!!
