Managed to unmanaged after server dies

Is there any way to convert a base of computers with SEP Small Business Edition v 12.1.2015.2015 from managed to unmanaged clients?

The SEPM these were pointed to died and we have no way to implement Method 2 from HOWTO36107 to make changes on the server side.

That leaves only method 1, uninstall/reinstall using unmanaged installer, which can do, but am trying to avoid.

Is there any other way?
